Be Smart. Shop Safe.

The holiday shopping season is just around the corner. Get educated on the vulnerabilities of new products you are thinking of purchasing by browsing through the Mozilla *privacy not included shopping guide.

The folks over at Mozilla have developed a set of minimum standards they think all connected products should meet as a minimum. Think of it as a “you must be this tall to ride” set of standards. The criteria includes:

  • Can it spy on you?
  • Does the product must use encryption?
  • What are the companies Privacy Policies?
  • Does it share data with third parties?
  • Ability to change the default password.
  • The company must provide automatic security updates.
  • The ability to delete all data stored about you.
  • Parental controls.
  • The company manages product security vulnerabilities
  • What could happen if something goes worng?

In the guide, Mozilla has ticked the products that their research shows to meet the guidelines. This tick is not an endorsement of the product on behalf of Mozilla, Consumers International, or the Internet Society.
